 (9) If the amount of your router’s connected devices reaches the limit, please try to turn off some device's Wi-Fi connection and connect again.

(10) If the router enables MAC address filter, please try to remove the device from MAC filter list and make sure the router allows the device to be connected.

Q3: Failure to connect your devices to ‘SmartLife-xxxx’.

A3: If you can not connect your devices to ‘SmartLife-xxxx’; please try ‘undefined-xxxx’ from the WiFi list.

Q4: Device goes offline.

A4: When the device is offline, please:

 (1) Ensure that the device is powered on.

 (2) Check if the network is stable. ( How to check the network? Place a smart phone or iPad besides the device and make sure they are in the same WiFi network environment, then try to open a website to judge if the network works smoothly. )

Please go to the device control page, click on the "..." button on the top right corner, and then click "Send Feedback" button to report the problem that you encountered, and provide you Router model, we will handle it ASAP.

 (5) After the device is connected, it can be remotely controlled by the App. But if the device is relocated to another place under different WiFi network, the App is no longer able to control the device unless reconnecting to the device via the new WiFi network.

Q6: After the device is connected, it can be controlled at the same location, but can't be remotely controlled by smart phone when you go to another location or use other network environment.

A6: If the device encounters such a situation, it may be the reason that the device and smart phone are connected to the same LAN, but not connected to the Internet.

 - Please place the phone besides your device and make sure they are in the same network environment, try to open a website to see if it’s the problem of network.

- If you cannot access the network, it is recommended to restart the router.

 - If the above problem still occurs, please go to the control page of the device, click on the "..." button in the top right corner, and then click on the "Send Feedback" to report the problem you encountered, and provide you Router model, we will handle it ASAP.

Q7: Device status cannot be synchronized with the status displayed on the App.

A7: If the device is controlled by a manual switch at the same time, the device may not be synchronized. It is recommended that you can try to open the App and control the device again to see if the device status is updated.

Q8: The lamp is off before power cut, but suddenly turns on after power recover.

A8: This usually happens when the lamp does not have a power button (also not controlled by a smart switch and no scene linkage). If the device needs to be connected to the Internet, it is necessary to ensure that the physical switch of the lamp is turned on, so that the lamp can be controlled by the App. When there is power cut, the smart lamp loses its connection to the App, and becomes an ordinary lamp. Then when the power recovers, the lamp turns on automatically as the physical switch of the lamp is turned on before.

4. Compatibility with Third-Party Platforms

Q9: How to check if my device is compatible with the third party ?

A9: Please add your device to the App and enter the device control page, select "..." button on the top right corner, you will see "Supported Third-party Control", click the icon to find the manual to use the third party control.

Q10: My device is successfully connected to Smart Life App, but fails to connect to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant?

A10: When this happens, please:

 (1) Make sure ‘Smart Life’ skill is added to the Alexa App or Google Assistant App.

(2) Make sure the account used in Smart Life App is the same as the one in Amazon App or Google Assistant App, and confirm that the account has successfully signed in the Apps.

 (3) Try to name your lighting devices with simple words in case that Alexa or Google Assistant might hard to recognize complicated names.

(4) Make sure both the lighting device and voice control device (Amazon Echo / Google Home) are connected to the same WiFi network. If they use different routers, Echo or Google Home might not be able to discover the lighting device.

 (5) If Amazon Cloud Service or Google Cloud Service breaks down, it would result in network disconnection with lighting devices. In this case, please wait and try to reconnect the devices later.

Q11: My device has been successfully connected to the third party App (Alexa or Google Assistant), but fails to respond or respond very slowly to its voice commands?

A11: When this happens, please:

 (1) Check your WiFi status and make sure it works well. Also make sure the lighting device is placed near to the router.

 (2) There is a limit for devices connected to one router (Maximum around 16-32 devices). Too many devices(smart phone, TV, iPad, smart plug, smart switch, smart lights etc) would slow down or even break down the WiFi network, causing the problems of slow response or disconnection.

(3) Try to name your lighting devices with simple words in case that it may take time for Alexa or Google Assistant to recognize and respond to complicated names.

 (4) Both Smart Life App or the third party Apps (Amazon Echo / Google Home) use cloud services to process information. Temporary service breakdown may happen during the routine maintenance and update of these Apps, causing dysfunction of the smart lighting devices. When this case happens, please wait and try to reconnect the devices later, or contact us ( support@ustellar.com ), we will offer solutions accordingly.

5. App Usage

Q12: How to cancel the countdown?

A12: Please set the countdown timer at 0 hours and 0 minutes to cancel it.

Tips to Put Sleep Your Kids

admin    11/07/2017

Sleep has long been regarded as an influential factor in childhood development. Most parents would agree that getting a quality night’s sleep is crucial not only for their children but for them too!

A restless night in many households can throw off the entire routine for the following day, leaving both parents and kids grumpy and on edge. Unfortunately, sleep problems are very common in young children.

Adequate sleep is important for your little one’s physical development and cognitive learning.”But what is the right amount of sleep for your child?

Recommended Sleep Amount

According to the Sleep Health Foundation the amount of sleep children require depends on their age:

  • 0 - 3 months = 14 - 17 hours
  • 4 - 11 months = 12 - 15 hours
  • 1 - 2 years = 11 - 14 hours
  • 3 - 5 years = 10 - 13 hours

If your little one is struggling to get to sleep some nights or wakes often, there are some strategies your family can implement to try and help.

  • Limit screens before bed – No screens on bed

In today’s world of smart phones and tablets it may be difficult to cut back on screen time before bed. Although some educational shows may support cognitive development it is also important to monitor any negative impacts screens may be having on sleep patterns.

Whether it be watching TV right before bed or playing games on a handheld device, too much screen time before bed can impact sleep quality.

                                                                                                   night light

  • Create a positive bedtime routine – Bedroom for rest only at night

A bedtime routine may help your child wind down after a busy day. This could last 30-60 minutes and should include activities associated with rest. Bubble baths, quiet reading or gentle music are good examples of ‘wind down activities’.

A big part of this routine should include associating the bedroom with only rest and not play. Game consoles, computers and televisions in the bedroom can be a mental distraction even when not in use. Removing these items may make the bedroom a place associated with rest, rather than play,  helping stabilize your child’s melatonin levels and induce a quality, sound sleep.

                                                                                                 night light

  • Identify behavioral issues – Utilize softly-lit night light

A common cause of sleep disturbances in children is behavioral issues such as not sleeping in their own bed, not settling, waking up during the night or struggling to wake in the morning.

A sleep specialist can help identify the causes of this but children generally grow out of these habits. In some cases they may be anxious about bedtime due to fear of the dark or nightmares. To assist with this try installing a night light. This can help children recognize their environment if they wake during the night and feel safe to fall asleep.

                                                                                              night light

What’s more, for parents of newborns , multiple nighttime feedings and check-ins are a reality. The use of a softly-lit night light will keep you from tripping in the nursery, or unnecessarily waking your sleeping baby by having to turn on the overhead light.

Mood Lighting: 4 Ideas to Bring Romance Home!

admin    04/07/2017

Gene Tierney said ‘When my mood was high, I seemed normal, even buoyant. I felt smarter. I had secrets. I could see God in a light bulb’.

Bob Marley once sang ‘Say. I want to give you some good, good loving. Turn your lights down low.’

Where there is light, there is hope and excitement ahead. Human mood is highly sensitive to any changes in light. We all get used to full brightness in lighting, but few of us realize the awesome magic in mood lighting.  Dimming lights can soften the environment, which help release stress, ease our mind to enjoy inner peace at home.

And it is easy to accomplish this with the following ideas.

Entertain Friends

Brighter light will set a cheerful mood, encourage activity and alertness. But the fact is that people don’t like to sit in bright, direct light.  So lighting should be focused on walls and points of interest. For example, use light to accent a prized piece of artwork, or an interesting design element of your home. Textures can also be emphasized with light - light reflecting off crystal or metal surfaces can make a room lively. A shadow cast on a wall by direct bright light is another effective technique for creating visual interest. Use of color in lighting can also be effective, if it’s not overdone. Warm colors like red and orange will increase the cheeriness and warmth of a room, and a red light on a red wall will intensify its effect.

                                                  article 2

Romantic Kitchen

Relaxed and intimate feeling can be achieved by lowering overall lighting levels, and subduing colors. Warm, soft light is more flattering to a person’s features, and a few choice lighting accents on the walls or dining table centerpiece can enhance the mood. Here are two tricks for creating a romantic mood: keep upper walls dark, and hide light sources. This will add a touch of mystery to your romantic dinner.

                                                  article 3

Pre- bed Ritual

Everyone has a pre-bedtime ritual that helps them transition from the alertness of the day to the calm and restfulness of slumber. Lighting has the unique ability to help you on your way toward a good night rest. Lower light levels can transition you from the brightness of day. If you like to read in bed, a bedside lamp can be set at a level just bright enough for comfortable reading. The rest of the bedroom should be much lower, but still bright enough to find your way around.

                                                    article 4

Midnight Snack

Sometimes a midnight snack really hits the spot, but if you’re hit with the bright lights of your kitchen it could be a harsh contrast from your dark bedroom, making it difficult to transition back to sleep. You also risk waking up others on your quest for a sandwich or glass of milk. The ideal lighting for a midnight snack would provide just enough light to find your way through the house without stumbling over furniture. Your eyes won’t be pierced with blinding light, and you’ll find your way to the refrigerator and back safely. Motion detectors can light a pathway to the kitchen and back—turning off one after another—following a specified amount of time.

                                                   article 5

When skillfully applied, lighting can elicit a wide range of emotional responses, making a party more cheerful or a romantic dinner more intimate. Try these ideas to bring simple romance home. Little change will make a difference.

FAQ – Other Lighting Products

admin    08/06/2017

  •  Q 1 : What does 6000K Daylight White mean when choosing a LED light bulb?

6000K refers to the color temperature of a lighting device, which is measured in degrees Kelvin (K). The color temperature of a bulb describes how the light appears when the human eye looks directly at the illuminated bulb.

A light bulb that produces light perceived as yellowish white will have a color temperature of around 2700K. As the color temperature increases to 3000K - 3500K, the color of the light appears less yellow and more white. When the color temperature is 5000K or higher, the light produced appears bluish white. The color temperature of daylight varies, but is often in the 5000K to 7000K range.

  • Q 2 : What does CRI of a LED light bulb tell us?

CRI refers to the Color Rendering Index. Color rendering describes how a light source makes the color of an object appear to human eyes and how well subtle variations in color shades are revealed. The Color Rendering Index is a scale from 0 to 100 percent indicating how accurate a "given" light source is at rendering color when compared to a "reference" light source.

The higher the CRI is, the better the color rendering ability is. Light sources with a CRI of 85 to 90 are considered good at color rendering. Light sources with a CRI of 90 or higher are excellent at color rendering and should be used for tasks requiring the most accurate color discrimination.

It is important to note that CRI is independent of color temperature. Examples: A 2700K ("warm") color temperature incandescent light source has a CRI of 100. One 5000K ("daylight") color temperature fluorescent light source has a CRI of 75 and another with the same color temperature has a CRI of 90.

  • Q 3 : Why should we use LED as replacement bulbs?

LED light bulbs, arrays of light emitting diodes in common light bulb shapes, provide increased energy efficiency and longer life compared to incandescent, halogen and most fluorescent and HID light bulbs. LED bulbs have additional advantages including:

    -  LED bulbs save 75% to 80% on energy costs when substituting LEDs for incandescent or halogen bulbs.

    -  LED bulbs save "ladder time" of 15 to 30 bulb changes with LEDs compared to incandescent or halogen, and 3 to 5 bulb changes compared to CFLs.

    -  LED bulbs can provide attractive return on investment for businesses and institutions when both energy and ladder time are included.

    -  LED bulbs illuminate at full output instantly when turned on.

    -  LED performance and life expectancy is not affected by frequent or even rapid on-off cycling.

    -  LEDs are more resistant than incandescent or halogen bulbs to mechanical failure due to shock and vibration.

    -  LED performance is unaffected and even improves in cold temperatures.

    -  LED light bulbs produce minimal ultraviolet and infrared radiation.

    -  LED bulbs contain no mercury.

  • Q 4 : Can LED bulbs be used on standard dimmers?

If you intend to use an existing incandescent or halogen dimmer to dim your LED light bulbs, be aware of these key points:

LED bulbs will dim with standard dimmers, but the dimming may not be as smooth as with incandescent or halogen. At lower dimming levels, the dimming may not function at all. In addition, unless you buy an LED that specifically indicates it has "warm dimming", then when you dim a standard LED bulb, the color temperature stays the same as at full light output, rather than becoming warmer as it dims.

  • Q 5 : How does heat affect LED bulbs?

When you hold your hand close to the surface of an illuminated incandescent or halogen bulb you feel heat - radiant heat to be precise. When you do the same with a cluster of LEDs, you don't feel heat.

The spectral output of LEDs for lighting does not contain infrared radiation. Why then you often hear of the need to dissipate heat from LED lamps? And why the elaborate cooling fins that have become a common feature of LED replacement bulbs?

The answer is that while LEDs do not produce infrared radiant heat, they do generate heat at the solid state junction. Too much heat at this junction will lower the life of the LED and reduce light output. The cooling fins perform the task of dissipating this heat.

So, if you use LEDs as replacement bulbs, be aware that light output and rated life will be adversely affected if they are placed inside enclosed or poorly ventilated fixtures where it will be difficult to dissipate heat.
